Spring is here and with it comes the annual tradition of spring cleaning! Instead of throwing your gently used clothes and other items away this year, consider donating to charity. By donating to DAV (Disabled American Veterans), you allow your old, unwanted items to transform into resources for wounded heroes and their families. On top of that, your donation qualifies for a tax deduction! Decluttering your closet not only helps you become organized, but your donations can make a real difference.

When you donate your clothes and household items in Dallas, you will be helping veterans like Ericka McKim. After being medically retired in 2014, the Navy veteran discovered healing and a renewed sense of purpose by starting her own business.

While in the Navy, she began experiencing severe back cramps, a list of digestive issues and brain fog. After two years of treatments, the Navy determined McKim was no longer deployable. McKim found herself back in Texas living with her parents, sick and unsure of what to do next. Heeding her mother’s advice, McKim cut gluten and sugar from her diet, but most of the gluten and sugar-free products on the market either sacrificed taste or caused McKim severe physical reactions.

Her bakery, And I Like It, started as a personal quest to alleviate debilitating symptoms that forced the former gunner’s mate out of the Navy well before she was ready. With a $10,000 entrepreneurship award from DAV, Ericka was able to take the all-natural sweeteners and keto-friendly treats she created to an even bigger market. McKim sells cheesecakes in 11 stores across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, along with three different all-natural sweeteners.

DAV’s clothing donation program, exclusive to the Dallas / Fort-Worth area, accepts all types of clothing, shoes, and home goods in good condition for children and adults. DAV partners with DonateStuff.com to provide free home pickup of your donation, which you can schedule online.

DAV makes it simple. We come to your door and pick it up for free. We eliminate the need for you to haul and deliver your items, making tidying easier and turning your donation into support for disabled veterans!

How It Works:
1) Schedule a pickup
2) Place donations outside of your home
3) Our driver will pick them up

When you donate your items to DAV, you will receive a printable tax receipt at pickup. At the end of the year, if you itemize deductions on your taxes, you can claim a tax deduction for clothing and household items that are in good condition.
